MORE ABOUT JOAN ARNOLD
Joan Arnold is a seasoned teacher of a variety of movement disciplines.
Certified teacher of the Alexander Technique and certified yoga
instructor in the Anusana style, she has a private practice in Brooklyn
and Manhattan. In her 25-year movement career, she has been a dancer,
personal trainer, dance and exercise teacher.
After her 1988 graduation from the American
Center for the Alexander Technique, she served on its faculty
and has taught actors at the American
Academy of Dramatic Arts, dance majors at Hunter
College, guests at the New Age
Health Spa, and members of Equinox
Fitness Clubs and New York Society
of Clinical Hypnosis. She has demonstrated the Technique
on CBS This Morning, Fox
Cable's FX/MD and the PBS
Series "Healthy Living with Jane Seymour."
Her personal essays, celebrity profiles and feature articles on
health, fitness, bodywork, spirituality, education and psychology
have appeared in a range of magazines, including
New York Woman, Shape, Fitness, Self, New Woman, Massage & Bodywork,
New Age Journal, More and
My Generation.
In collaboration with voice teacher and choral conductor Mark Mangini,
she has presented The Body Behind the Voice:
Singing & the Alexander Technique for the Greenwich Village
Singers and for the Hampton Choral Society in East Hampton, NY.
She has given workshops applying Alexander Technique to yoga for
yoga teacher trainees at
Brooklyn's Yoga People.
She has taught
Refining Your Postures: Yoga & the Alexander
Technique at
Shakti Yoga Center in Staten Island and
Yoga Center of Brooklyn.
Upcoming workshops will be at the Silver Lake
Yoga Studio in Los Angeles and
Amrita Yoga In Mahhattan.
Also a mambo dancer, she focuses on helping her clients recapture
the inherent pleasure in movement.
